Estimated at 260,000 square feet, the structure is being built at the southwest corner of University Drive and Rural Road — the former site of a car wash. The architect team consists of Phoenix-based Architecton and New York-based Grimshaw. Ground has not been broken, plans call for finishing the project in December 2020.
American Campus Communities is putting the final touches on the Greek Leadership Village at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus. Total development costs for the 957-bed project stand at $69.6 million. A grand opening for the new housing on the east side of ASU’s campus along Rural Road is planned for September.
The Greek Village Community Center features meeting spaces, council and staff offices and retail space. Fraternity and sorority members worked in partnership with the university to develop the 27-house community. This is the seventh project ACC has built for ASU, Gilbert said. ACC will operate more than 7,700 beds of student housing at ASU when the new Greek project opens.
Construction is starting on a 157-room sustainability-focused Element hotel at the ASU SkySong development in Scottsdale. SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center, is located at Scottsdale and McDowell roads and is home to high-tech offices, Arizona State University programs and apartments. Jackson-Shaw is developing the hotel, which will total about 100,000 square feet.
Arizona State University unveiled preliminary plans this week for a $160 million renovation of Wells Fargo Arena with an adjacent indoor sports complex to house men’s hockey, wrestling and gymnastics.
The plans were reviewed by the Arizona Board of Regents Business and Finance Committee on Thursday, and members voted unanimously to send the plans to the full board for approval in February.
About half of the $160 million would go toward renovating Wells Fargo Arena and the other half on the new hockey venue, which will be right next door on what is now parking spaces.
A new building housing the school, to cost between $40 million and $50 million, will be between First and Second streets, just north of Polk, next to the recently built Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
Construction of the new building is expected to be finished by January 2021. It will include space for classrooms, meetings, enclave and office space and will include two levels for executive education. It also will have a rooftop function space.
For the third year in a row, Arizona State University tops the list of “most innovative schools” in the nation, recognizing the university’s groundbreaking initiatives, partnerships, programs and research.
U.S. News and World Report has named ASU as the most innovative university all three years it has had the category. The widely touted set of annual rankings by the news magazine, which compares more than 1,500 institutions on a variety of metrics.
Business, civic, and education leaders alike are collaborating to help turn Phoenix into a leading market not just for large corporations, but also tech companies. Driving across the region you can see signs for other major tech companies from Silicon Valley, including Weebly, Uber, Shutterfly, Prosper Marketplace, BoomTown, Gainsight, and DoubleDutch. These companies, and others like them, saw reprieve from the exorbitant costs of doing business in the Bay Area and the spiking labor competition, but were also drawn in by the value of running their expansion offices in Greater Phoenix.
The ASU Research Park has a $1.4 billion economic impact and the companies at the R&D and business park generate more than 16,100 jobs. That is according to a new economic impact report by Arizona State University’sW.P. Carey School of Business.
The 320-acre research park has 51 tenants including Amazon, Avnet, GoDaddy, Iridium and Amkor Technology. There are also ASU electronics and solar research groups at the park located at the Loop 101 freeway and Warner Road in Tempe. Tenants at the park employ 6,000 workers.
